Brecon Jazz Club’s July showcase brings 2- yes 2 bands! to The Muse.. as guest promotor John Close presents Tiggy Blackwell Quintet & Huw Llewellyn Quartet
Tiggy (Antigone) Blackwell is a young trombonist who has impressed audiences in her performances in both the Siglo Section Big Band and in our 'Marquee Day' Funkyard Collective. Here, Tiggy leads her own quintet playing a mix of jazz standards and own work.
Huw Llewellyn is a young trumpeter from South Wales who has won admiration for his performances around Cardiff and more, and we've invited Huw to come play BJC with his own quartet.
Our Guest Promoter for BJC July is John Close a young musician, composer and promoter who has been curating jazz programmes for the talked-about 'Coaltrain' venue located at the Coffee Shop & Gallery on Barry Railway Station along with owner Al. On a visit there (all word of mouth from jazz followers), we heard the Mingus Project and immediately booked them for the Festival last year! John himself appeared in last year's festival, guesting on guitar with visiting US musician Stephen Kirby, also as part of Zach Breskel's Trio. He performs with the Siglo big band. Having appeared at Brecon Jazz himself, we invited John to curate our July (pre Festival) Jazz Club programme!
Expect exciting, straight ahead jazz from some of the best rising players anywhere.
